UBLY - “It feels really good” was new Ubly football coach Jim Becker’s comment on his first day as the head coach.

Monday, Aug. 6 was the first day that high school teams were allowed to hold official practices. Kinde-North Huron even held their first practice of the new season at 12:01 a.m. Monday to get a jump on the season.

The Michigan High School Athletic Association requires that every team make conditioning a priority in these early practices. Coach Becker ended his first practice session with the “Nail in the Coffin” drill, also known as the 300- yard shuttle. The players run 300 yards by sprinting to the 10-yard line then back to the goal line, sprint to the 20 yard line then back to the goal line, they repeat this all the way to the 50 yard line, thus covering three hundred yards.
